The hotel shares the prestigious Embassy Road alongside prominent embassies and businesses, and is a mere 20-minute drive from the international airport, and a 10-minute drive away from the city center and major tourist attractions. Despite its central location, Hotel Shambala serves as an oasis of tranquility for all who arrive here making it an excellent choice for those seeking a comfortable stay in Kathmandu.
Our hotel’s name was inspired by the mythical Shambhala kingdom, echoing our aspiration to offer peace, relaxation, and liberation from life’s tribulations to our guests.
We opened our doors in December 2014. The same year in July, our CEO Tseten Tsatultsang returned to mark a new chapter in our journey, reflecting our commitment to family, community, and creating a haven for all who seek it.
A Legacy of Tibetan Hospitality, Crafting Timeless Tranquility Since the 1970s
Originating from a Tibetan family—the Tsatultsangour’s, our journey began in the 1970s when we established a café in the heart of Kathmandu’s historic Freak Street. By the mid-1980s, we had ventured into hospitality with the pioneering Potala Guest House in Thamel—one of the first five hotels to grace the vibrant streets of Thamel.
The seeds of Hotel Shambala were sown in 2011 when construction began. The family’s vision for the hotel was to infuse minimalist Tibetan aesthetics into modern design, bringing forth an oasis where the past meets the present.
